@kevincollier Investigators with the OIG also found that CBP could've reunited some families after the parents got time served for entering illegally. They chose not to in order to avoid additional paperwork and sent them directly to ICE custody. oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/…

Statement from @JoaquinCastrotx on the death of Felipe Alonzo-Gomez, the 8 yr old who died last night in CBP custody.

“Many questions remain unanswered, including how many children have died in CBP custody.”
An official with knowledge of Felipe’s death told me the 8 yr old had been detained by CBP for a whole week before he died. He and his father were detained since Dec. 18 after crossing into the US in El Paso, Texas.

Nielsen said unaccompanied children will be exempt from US plan to force asylum seekers along the southern border to remain in Mexico while their immigration case are processed.
"The goal is to protect those who seek asylum, it cannot be the way we do that is we force them to pay a smuggler trafficker and put themselves at risk," @SecNielsen.

H/T to @actual_chaos for this WP article. It provides some great new information, hidden by a bit of spin. First it shows a concerted effort by McCabe to force the recusal of Rosenstein from the Trump case. McCabe knew RR was not on his side, that's clear.

McCabe went to a meeting with RR & Mueller bearing documents from FBI Ethics people saying he was in the clear & had no conflicts that required him to recuse from the Mueller case. He of course brought Lisa Page along to help his arguments.
I think it is clear that the entire purpose of appointing Mueller was to take the case from McCabe. He clearly suspected that too & attacked RR to try & force his recusal. He failed. But McCabe clearly wanted RR off this case so he could run it.
