I bow to all Android programmers who have mastered figuring out the 5 levels of abstraction it takes to do the simplest task in an Android app. I hope you're paid well.
4 callbacks & 250 lines of code later, I was able to capture an image.
Living the dream
All you have to do is make a CameraManager, get your CameraDevice, createCaptureRequest, make an imageReader, define a Surface for a drawing target, createCaptureSession, get your image, convert your img to a ByteBuffer, & finally you can save it.

Easy.
Don't worry though: if you get stuck, just copy & paste some StackOverflow code into your repo. nbd.
