During an 18 month period from 1971-72, protest bombings by groups like Weatherman Underground had exceeded 2500. That's about five attacks per day on US soil.
Organizers and operatives like Bill Ayers were not turned over to authorities, instead they were protected by leftist infrastructure. Leftists have often wanted to emulate violence such as Sam Melville's fascination with 2 Quebecois separatist that he drove to the airport.
Those two individuals hijacked a plane to Cuba. Sam Melville became a hero and martyr of the violent leftist movement of the late 1960s/early 70s. He was later killed in the Attica uprising in 1971.
Most of these radicals were one time leftist students that still believed in the utopian dreams of 1968. Melville's ideology of bombings caught on with the leftist movement. Another hero of the era was Eldridge Cleaver, a rapist who could write.
Cleaver seduced his attorney who secured his release and then set him up with RAMPARTS & white radicals became obsessed with him. Radical leftists love criminals that can write and nearly deify them.
Weathermen Underground was an offshoot of the radical leftist student group Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). This group worked to build its own guerrilla organization
Much of the same things that happened in the mid 1960s through mid 1970s involving political violence is being conducted by people with the same ideological beliefs as those groups. They're just calling it something else.
The left was unapologetic then and is unapologetic now. Leftists were shielded by Democrats then, but now are promoted and cheered by liberal Democrats.
