Out of base on my own hustle, missing a major school event, I took a walk to the pool side of my hotel and found my friend who had also travelled down for a similar engagement, enjoying a sumptuous meal of egg, sausage & fish stew. Man like Seyi knows no one is promised tomorrow.
No sooner had we finished eating (forgot to mention I ordered mine) when we noticed people arriving in batches of ten. Mostly comprised of men whose ages I would put btw 28&40, they listened to a brief instruction by the facilitator who thereafter reeled out the names of starters
A confirmation of swimming competence was about to be conducted further to the claim by the *applicants* that they could swim. It is my guess that they are prospecting a job as I noticed officials whose uniforms had the logo of the nation's oil company
Divided into batches, they were made to swim by the 4ft precinct. They "tested positive". This wasn't the real test. Feeling persuaded they could swim, they were made to line up in columns of two @ the10ft area. The instruction, ostensibly, was for them to swim from Left to Right
In twos, they would dive & swim. I noticed differed swimming styles. I was getting bored. Perhaps jealous. Only a day before. I tried to swim. Utter disaster. I found Kis/z Daniel's "no go dey do pass yourself" consolatory. Tortured me watching these guys make a STEW of swimming

My doubt was cleared when the life saver jumped in and brought the brother out. Baba was drowning. I felt vindicated leaving the previous day when I couldn't swim. Drowning is real
The instructor turned to those who hadn't yet be called to swim and warned anyone who lied about their swimming ability to remain seated and not bother about the test. Even said something to the effect that the test is not "so important".
Shook me when I realised the facilitator wasn't concerned about the risk to life. "I will be made to pay if you get into the water & you can't swim. I will not forgive you", he said. My morning was made. I sauntered off stealing glances at the believer. Faith is good, so is truth
