Visited the first Nazi concentration camp at Dachau, Germany today.

"May the examples of those who were exterminated here between 1933-1945 because they resisted Nazism help to unite the living for the defence of peace and freedom and in respect for their fellow men."

Thread.
In the times we live in, the significance of this place is immense. Maybe, @POTUS must pay a visit sometime?
More than 43000 died here and many more at various other camps. But there are still Nazis all around us operating covertly and overtly.

How many more must die?
An exhibition of human cruelty. And bigotry.
The bunker was a cantre of terror. Prisoners were locked in its cells for weeks or months at a time, often in darkness and with even less food than in the rest of the camps. An unknown number of prisoners were murdered or drive to suicide here.
"Sometimes even the dead had to be dragged to the roll call ground to be counted."
What was the context in which National Socialism or Nazism rose in Germany?
Does this ring any bells, India?
"National Socialism consolidated and radocalized a number of political positions that were widespread in the society, like nationalism and resentment towards liberalism, democracy and the socialist workers' movement."

What might be the lesson here?
Are resemblances to actual situations purely coincidental or does history just repeat itself?
Ever wondered who were those geniuses in the then German society who supported the Nazis? Here you go.
Fritz Dressel and his cross pendant.
About press coverage.
The twisted games of bigotry, then and now.
The persecution wasn't just on religious lines, it was about removing all those who "weaken" the society. The obsession with uniformity and purity led to madness then. How well are we defending it now?
Can the media who crawl when asked to bend, even in their wildest dreams, contemplate the bravery of those who spoke truth to power? Can you, @republic and @TimesNow?
