NY Times is Stupid About Southern California, Part XXIX: They just published a article with the title "The New Punks of Los Angeles" aka Latinos. Um, Alice Bag? South Gare as a new Latino punk scene? I was covering shows at VFW halls for LA Weekly there almost 15 years ago! (1/?)
The problem is almost NEVER the NY Times' excellent California corp; it's their Gotham editors. Time and time again, Times editors get duped by (mostly) gabacho freelancers who sell them on a SoCal "trend" that ain't. (2/?)
This track record is abhorrent. SoCal had bodegas! Bread is now a thing! Cholos pick avocados! Punks in LA are now Latino! BARF. Hey, NY Times: hire a SoCal editor who, you know, knows SoCal so y'all don't look pendejo again and again and again. (c/s)
