1. Some updates on @Google and their $5000 contribution to Mississippi Senator Cindy-Hyde Smith.

Hyde-Smith reported to the FEC that she received the contribution on November 13.

Google says they made the contribution on November 2

@Google 2. Google's point is that they made the contribution before Hyde-Smith's lynching comments were public. The company says had they known they wouldn't have done it.

But that also suggests Hyde-Smith filed a false report with the FEC

3. What's the truth? I'm not sure. Google would only tell me their check to Hyde-Smith was dated November 2. The company wouldn't say when they sent it or when Hyde-Smith received it.

In a basic sense the timeline does not matter all the much now.

4. Google is now aware of the comments and says it would not donate to a candidate that jokes about attending a lynching.

But the company is not asking for its money back.

So I'm not sure what principle is guiding the company

5. These multi-billion dollar companies are not used to receiving any scrutiny for their political donations and don't like being held accountable.

Perhaps the company will think a bit harder about its next donation.
