Today in Florida recount news: 1/
Judge Mark Walker of the U.S. District Court in Northern Florida, ruled narrowly in Nelson's favor to allow voters whose signatures on file did not match those on their mailed-in ballots to "cure" the problem -- that is, prove their identities -- by Saturday. 2/
Palm Beach County, which a week ago had informed the state that it would be unable to conduct multiple recounts simultaneously, acknowledged that it won't even be able to finish the Senate race by the 3 p.m. machine recount deadline. 3/
The Nelson camp filed its 2nd lawsuit in less than 24 hours against Bay County, a Republican stronghold in the Florida Panhandle. Yesterday they wanted to examine some 150 ballots that were faxed and emailed after Hurricane Michael. Now they want to keep them from counting. 4/
Judge Walker ruled in another federal case, this time against Nelson, denying the extension of the machine recount deadline. Nelson camp wanted deadlines extended for all 67 Florida counties. 5/
(Should note that Scott camp filed notice to appeal Judge Walker's first ruling, on the mismatched ballot signature. That appeals goes to the 11th Circuit.) 6/
Miami-Dade, the state's largest county, finished recounting yesterday and did extra quality-assurance work. Broward, the state's second-largest county, finished recounting early this morning and sent off its results a few minutes ago. Now: the 3 p.m. deadline. 7/
The Scott campaign says it had monitors compiling recount totals at every county and their statewide totals show Scott picked up 865 votes and now leads Nelson by 13,427 votes. Will still be within manual recount margin but Scott calls on Nelson to concede and end it now. 8/
The Nelson camp is, um, unlikely to concede. Nelson's lead recount lawyer has argued all along that the only place where he might make significant gains is in a manual recount, if any major machine tabulation error is found. 9/
(Should have noted above in reference to Bay County lawsuit that faxed and emailed ballots were specifically disallowed in an emergency directive to Panhandle counties after the hurricane.) 10/
Gillum puts out a statement and it's not a re-concession (yet): “As today’s unofficial reports and recent court proceedings make clear, there are tens of thousands of votes that have yet to be counted..." 11/
And we've got manual recounts in the Florida Senate and ag commish races, as expected. Margins:
Senate -- Scott leads Nelson by 12,603 votes or .15%
Ag Commish -- Fried leads Caldwell by 5,307 votes or .06%
Gov race stands with DeSantis leading Gillum by 33,683 votes or .41% 12/
In today's case of believe-it-or-not, Broward's recount results were filed 2 minutes late to the state's website and so they did not count. They finished on time but the data did not transmit in time due to unfamiliarity with the state website. 13/
And Broward now suggests the difference in its original results vs. recount results may have been because of inappropriate handling or commingling of ballots. Sigh. 14/
Elsewhere, the 11th Circuit denied Scott’s appeal on the mismatched ballot signatures. Voters have til 5 p.m. to cure them. 15/
