Superb speech by Professor Charles Kessler at @Hillsdale, which is very much like the superb address by @krauthammer to @KirbyCenter a few years earlier (included in @dkrauthammer-edited new collection of his father’s work “The Point of It All” amazon.com/Point-All-Life….
Professor Kessler’s “first” of 3 options seems to me likeliest because of judicial appointees of @realDonaldTrump, superintended in their confirmations by @senatemajldr @ChuckGrassley and @SenateGOP. Those judges will protect the “conservative Constitution” Kessler writes of.
That’s a very good thing, and people who read the both the Kessler and the Krauthammer speeches will understand this column from September 7: washingtonpost.com/opinions/mitch… Doesn’t mean conservatives will like every decision from #SCOTUS or appeals courts. They won’t.
But it does mean rule-of-law conservatives, at least for some years, will understand the original Constitution, as amended/interpreted through the end of last term, will remain the highest law and thus set the “first principles” of the Republic we should be thankful for today.
