Have you ever been broke; have you ever been broken? Have you ever lost the plot, & your own true name? Have you ever felt jagged contempt for everything in the mirror? Have you ever hated yourself, & the world? I have, more than once.
I’ve been to the bottom of the well, to places too low for even demons to walk. Let me tell you what I found there: Fearlessness. I found the things inside that do not break, when every bone of your body is broken. I went deep enough into the cold, to find the undying flame.
I forgave myself, then everybody else. Have you ever felt so much fire in your bones, you could hear yourself crackle when you walk? I have—I walk like that just to go check the mail.
Have you ever felt a love rise inside you so fierce, that the force of it scared you? I have, and you are right to be afraid. Have you ever shared communion with every single created thing? I have, already today.
Have you ever made something explode, just by opening your mouth? I’m doing it, now. There’s a thing that burns in me, that I did not start nor can I end. Call it swagger if you want—I call it the Spirit.
She blows over me, into me, out of me—the wildness of trinity, surges out of my control. I don’t have to be faster. I don’t have to be stronger. Nor I do have to pretend any longer to be less powerful than I am: I am made of that flame.
God swims hot in my veins. The power is not mine—go ahead & tremble, if you need to. I hold in me the secret that slumbers beneath the graveyard—everything that dies, comes raging back to life...shouting.

You aren’t over.

Happy Thanksgiving.
