General Motors plant closure will have major impact on Ontario. Announcement will have particularly bitter reaction in Canada since both Canada and Ontario contributed disproportionately to saving GM in 2009. I expect massive Canadian backlash against GM which had good sales here
making GM's announcement even more galling is that, only 6 months ago, our idiotic and preening PM Justin Trudeau forgave remaining $3.7 billion in GM debt from government assistance of 2009. I guess that he was too preoccupied thinking about costumes, photos and parades.
note: $3.7 billion is total advanced to GM and Chrysler which remains uncollected according to news, part to GM and part to Chrysler. I haven't parsed details and don't vouch for exact numbers, other than amounts large and galling.

1/ I'm following #manbij for news on Syria in wake of US departure announcement. Manbij is flashpoint. It's to east of Aleppo, west of Euphrates. It's held by SDF (Kurds). US still present. Turkey told Trump that they would deal with remnant ISIS. In very south far from Manbij.
2/ In fact, Turkey's objective seems to be to subjugate "PKK terrorists" i.e. the Kurdish militias employed by US (under alias SDF). To do so, they are deploying thousands of jihadis, presently mobilized north of Manbij.

General Motors Co. announced plans to close the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant & Warren Transmission Operations in metro Detroit.

GM will also close the Oshawa Assembly Plant in Oshawa, Ontario; Lordstown Assembly in Lordstown, Ohio and the Baltimore Operations in White Marsh, MD.

About 14,200 employees in North America; 8,000 white-collar jobs & about 6,200 factory worker jobs. 😳
But more people than that will be affected. For every auto assembly job, there are up to seven spin-off jobs so the impact is about 49,000 in North America, industry analysts estimate.
