Anne Bancroft is the hero of this movie, which hates her.
This is my actual TED talk.
Anne Bancroft walked into The Graduate and said “I’m going to make a completely different movie than the one everyone else is making, except in scenes where the script makes it literally impossible.” And then she did it. AND NOBODY STOPPED HER BECAUSE SHE WAS INVISIBLE TO THEM.
Anne Fucking Bancroft.
Goddamn it, my hotel room has TCM. And The Graduate starts in two minutes. But I need to be up at like 6:30 to drive home. Goddamn it.
(I may only be saved by the fact that this is an old-timey inn, and that the television is thus the size of a cocktail napkin.)

One more thing on youth voting: There are a lot of folks in my mentions saying kids aren’t cognitively developed enough to vote. But it’s not clear to me what that means.
At 12, the typical kid is more than able to meet baseline standards for voting—understanding what an election is, learning about candidates, managing the act of voting.
When we bar kids from making choices they’re not mature enough to make, it’s generally because we’re worried that they’ll do harm to themselves or others if allowed to choose.

Just saw something on my feed that reminded me to remind you that if you’re a NYC (or vicinity) high school or middle school teacher and you’d like me to come talk to your students, all you have to do is say so and I’ll be there.
I've spoken with NYC middle school students about the history of youth activism, how they can make change themselves, whether we should lower the voting age—all sorts of stuff. And the conversations are always really lively.
And because it's so much fun, and because it's a subway ride away, and because I know that y'all don't have budgets for this stuff, I'm happy to do it for free. So shoot me a message if you want to set it up.

Politico says Dems we’re “livid,” but quotes critics saying the comment was “not helpful” and not language I would use,” and saying “people should cool their jets.” “Livid” is a laughable overstatement.
No congressional Dem is going to praise that quote, but I’m not seeing anyone willing to criticize it in any but the most anodyne terms. If you’re going to do a reaction piece, that’s your story: “Dems shrug off Tlaib’s remarks.”
In addition to not being a lie, a “Dems to Tlaib: ‘Meh’” piece has the virtue of being at least vaguely counterintuitive.

One of Christian Pulisic's biggest strength is acceleration, so how exactly is that helpful? Let's first take a look at this video of Cristiano Ronaldo sprinting against Angel Rodriguez. Rodriguez is a Spanish champion over 100m
From this video it's clear that Rodriguez is quicker in a straight sprint, obviously. But much slower than Ronaldo in a zigzag sprint over the same distance. Pulisic isn't Ronaldo but he's quick, he likes taking on defenders & dribbling because he's fearless, a bit like Hazard.

When it comes to economic inequality, THEY ARE BOTH CORRECT.

We need to honor the individual.

In theory, there's no difference between theory and practice.

In practice, there is.

Academics lecturing traders on how to run their business is like nuns lecturing prostitutes on how to run theirs.

It's two different worlds.
The Expert Problem:

There are 2 kinds of professions. Those where the experts have no clue what they're talking about, & those where they do.

The "Expert Problem" doesn't exist in industries like weather forecasting. If you repeatedly fail predict the weather, you don't last.

One could say that yes, this appears to be a surface-level irony.

I have an issue with this criticism, however (and I receive it a fair amount). It does not take into account any issue of power structure, which I will now address:
I am an independent content creator. I am not affiliated with any entities which would provide me any sort of budget to cover production costs or basic necessities (a corporation, a think tank, etc.)

I also live in the United States.
I say this to assert my personal situation, although creators in other situations, say bands signed to labels, are in situations in which t-shirt sales are required to fund them as human beings who eat food. They see pennies for the music made on their labor.

Brexit seems to have run completely into a wall. This will be a thread on how to leave the European Union.

It's written by someone who thinks the idea is ludicrous so before you attack me leavers, instead think how objective that makes me, and how honest I'll be on the issues.
There are a number of significant hurdles associated with leaving the EU so we'll move away from the politics and divide them into bite sized chunks that everyone can understand.

When we've done that we'll look at what we have at the end and decide how we approach it now.
There are some principles to establish. The thread won't indulge in revising history. When you're in a 40 year relationship, signing article 50 without a plan was clearly an act of extreme stupidity. But sign it we did. So we build from where we are now, not where we should be.
