CLEAN THREAD: The connection between Cambridge Analytica/SCL/AIQ, Oakes, Nix, Bannon, Mercer & crew and cryptocurrency. HINT: All roads lead to Russia. [My previous thread added research in real time and became confusing, so I am cleaning it up for clarity.]
2/ 2 years ago, Cambridge Analytica planned to release it's own cryptocurrency ICO. An ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is similar to corporations doing an IPO on the stock exchange. Essentially, it's a method of crowdsourcing funds, often as start up capital.
3/ An ICO allows investors to buy "tokens".
✔️These tokens are exchanged later for fiat currencies or other cryptocurrencies.
✔️An ICO allows crypto ventures to avoid regulations that come from bank funding.
✔️ICOs are rife for scams and fraud. wsj.com/articles/buyer…

Facebook is listening to you 24/7/365.
Are they recording/safe-housing?
The historical fact is that 'privacy' (as we know it today) is a modern invention, less a 'fundamental human right' and more of a cultural custom. The word wasn't even known in English before 1814. Here's Google Books on 'privacy' mentions: they don't really happen until 1960.
The founding documents of neither French nor American revolutions make a mention of it (though the 4th Amendment has later been interpreted to imply it).
Ultimately, privacy is a coping mechanism we cooked up to deal with anonymous, post-Industrial, urban life.
In the hunter-gatherer tribes where humans evolved, or in the small towns where most Westerners lived until recently, there was no notion of privacy. If you explained privacy to a !Kung tribesman, or a 19th-century French villager, they’d have no idea what you were talking about.
"How many people here have heard of a technological singularity? A technological singularity is something IT people and science fiction writers have liked to talk about for years." /1
"The idea is that we will reach a point, or have already reached a point, where technology is beyond the scope of human understanding and artificial intelligence will be programming itself, in a Skynet sort of world." /2
Around the world, people lamenting the demise of democracy, or fighting for the birth of ‘true’ democracy need to take a closer look. Democracy is a universally failed concept, not because we have not implemented it properly but because the ideas were flawed to begin with. /1
Advocates of democracy as a system of governance usually hold that it will produce the greatest satisfaction among the governed by allowing the voices of all to be heard. /2
For news, Wired recommends @nuzzel. Great app, but it never stuck for me because I don't use social media for news. (@AppleNews is OK, but still limited to a handful of countries.) My tip: Pick a trusted news source (mine is @tagesschau), use their site, pay them if you can.
Governance is a force directing actions taken by society. We began governance with small tribes arranging relationships and personal assets between themselves and authority only required to settle disputes. /1
As populations grew, we moved to a variety of government systems with full hierarchies, official authorities and hard coercive force in the form of official military and police. Lately we have moved far beyond these forms to all pervasive and largely invisible soft coercion. /2
1. #DeleteFacebook is well-meaning, and it is good to start with boycotts. But saying 'glad I never used Facebook' or 'I don't use Facebook' is missing the point. This is not a scandal of privacy. It is not a consumer rights issue, aka Facebook users having their data misused.
2. The Facebook scandal is an issue of *market power* overwhelming producers, NOT consumers. It is Facebook's use of data to dominate publishers, artists and ad buyers that is the key problem. All tech companies do not do this. Only Facebook and Google are this dominant.
3. The amount of data that many companies and entities know about you is significant. That is not the issue with regards to Facebook. Zuckerberg isn't interested in knowing whether you're cheating on your spouse. He is interested in dominating the New York Times with your data.
Going to try to tweet this as I work through it. Someone out there doesn't like facebook. At least 3-4 different freshly minted botnets are retweeting anything with the #DeleteFacebook hashtag. #Bot#TwitterBots
the 1st "set" of bots is very similar to the elon musk cryptocurrency scammer bots that are running wild on twitter.
they are retweeting everything this account tweets:
Do you want to know what made Trump president? It wasn't the thousands spent on Facebook ads or the analytics.
It was the TV media that threw away all objectivity/ethics to cash in on the ratings juggernaut of Trump. They gave him almost *TWO BILLION DOLLARS* in free airtime.
Yes, the voters made him president (not the popular vote, of course, but in PA/MI/WI), but at the end of the day the media gave him so much free airtime that he was able to cruise through the primaries and then defeat a most historically terrible candidate in Hillary.
Did Facebook help Trump win? Maybe... and maybe with some states being so close that would matter. But if we're going to "#DeleteFacebook" as so many are suggesting (and that's fine), maybe we should delete the networks that covered Trump 24/7 while ignoring the sane candidates?
Facebook is using it's AI to target our children w/ advertising This algorithm could also be used by pedophiles to seek out ones that are easily manipluated & taken advantage of. FB bans conservatives as they allow pedophiles free reign #PedoNews#PedoGateusatoday.com/story/tech/new…
The wealth of the wicked is laid up for the just. Let Jay Z spend his money in an attempt to profit off of FaceBook.
I think the DOJ needs to break up this monopoly & hold them accountable for possession of child pornography on their internal servers #PedoGateNews
