here’s a recap of the first day of testimony. we’ll be hearing from more of the prosecution’s witnesses today, including more of the victims of the attack.
again, strong content warning for everything i’ll be posting for the next few weeks.
i’ll update you all when we break for lunch. stay powerful out there. love each other. that’s something we have that they don’t and it’s a force to be reckoned with.
so obviously i did not update you at lunch. a dear friend insisted i let her take me out to lunch instead of spending that time sitting in my car flipping through my notes like i usually do.
we heard from 7 more of the commonwealth’s witnesses today: two witnesses who were grievously injured in the attack, two CPD detectives, the drivers of the two other vehicles at the intersection, and a daily progress photographer.
partially because my handwriting grows as the day wears on, but mostly because he testified for over two hours, 7 of the 18 pages of notes i took today were during the testimony of CPD detective steven young.
if you’ve listened to the introductory episode of the podcast i’m doing about this trial, you’ll remember young was the only witness to testify at fields’ preliminary hearing last year. we heard much of that same testimony and then some today.
detective young’s testimony was used to introduce the VSP helicopter footage (which captured the attack, fields’ attempt to flee, and his subsequent arrest), security footage from local businesses, videos taken of fields earlier in the day, and more.
a more complete recap of the testimony we heard today will be posted tomorrow. having written over 15,000 words this week and taken 50 pages of handwritten notes, my brain and my hands are tired.
