I've read one of these dorks try to explain themselves. Unsurprisingly, it's just unresolved shit from adolescence.

They were into cartoons/comics/games as teens, and were MOCKED for it! But now that it's mainstream, the JOCKS (YES THEY SAID THAT) are out here in Iron Man tees!
The girl who wouldn't date them was Wonder Woman for Halloween! That guy who ripped up their printed-out scanslation in study hall for laughs just made a Death Note Joke on Twitter!

BAW! It's not FAIR! The Mean Kids used to hate these things!!!!!
And it's like... okay, sounds like that sucked m'man, but
- None of this stuff belongs to you or needs your permission to be liked by other people, and
- Now it is YOU who are the asshole.
Maybe don't define yourself by the media you consume, because you literally have no control over that.

Louisiana makes no sense. Despite being a busy commercial and industrial hub packed to the brim with extensively-exploited natural resources, it's one of the poorest states in America, with the lowest quality of life indicators.

Here's a vid on why.
In a phrase? Industrial tax exemptions. Between 66% & 99%(!) of the properties owned by companies like Exxon & Dow in LA aren't taxed at all. Exemption requests, decided at the state level, are passed 99% of the time. There hasn't been a policy review of the process in +80 YEARS.
Louisiana is losing hundreds of millions, possibly more, in tax dollars every year to these exemptions. And as a result, when judged by factors like healthcare, infrastructure, educational opportunities and crime prevalence, LA comes DEAD LAST at 50. usnews.com/news/best-stat…

Oh god they're honestly all so interchangeable. But some common threads?

- No loss or death is their fault. It's a glitch, lag, or a stream sniper. Those are the only options.
- Everyone is their chat is an idiot and needs to shut up.
- Zero casual conversation. 100% sulking.
Some people have natural, easy charisma, and some people learn to be charismatic.

And some people just silently glower into their webcam for six hours when they're not playing with their phone or Yellin' At Vidya Gamez.
That Dad Mode streamer I liked from yesterday is on vacation, and I am feeling the loss.

More #Fallout4, and the construction of The Sanctuary Museum of Pre-War America.

Made a "children's toys" display case, and a "sports and leisure" display. Fishing rod won't fit in the latter, sadly.
As I mentioned before, the Vault-Tec rep is in Sanctuary and assigned to work the cafe, so the restaurant on the second floor is completely functional! Every evening after work, the residents congregate up here to eat and socialize. I need to finish the building & add furniture.
I also made the rep his own house; an old bus behind the museum. Unlike most of the settlement's living quarters, he has it all to himself, cuz again, Dude Needed A Win.

One of my favorite quotes of all time: when Julia Child, who did more than anyone to make cooking accessible to everyday people, said, "The more I cook, the more I like to cook."

There's a lot to unpack in this seemingly simple quote. Let me try to explain why I love it so much.
Most people don't know this, but Julia Child was _not_ a natural at cooking and discovered it rather late in life. She was self-conscious due to her height (6'2"), played sports in college, and majored in history. She began her career as a copywriter in New York.
She said of herself at the time, "I am sadly an ordinary person... with talents I do not use." She didn't enjoy her job as a writer and felt that her talents were going to waste.

As a #comics fan or consumer, it's okay not to like a thing. It's okay to say you don't like a thing. You can even be a bit dickish about not liking a thing, but it's not okay to dehumanize the creators or the fans of it, especially if your reason is: I just want good stories.
We all want good stories. Even those of us who enjoy 'bad' stories do so because somewhere inside we see something good about them. If you want good stories, go find them. If you are sad that you think someone ruined your favorite character, say you don't like the direction they
are headed, then go back and read the story lines you do enjoy. Or wait until the next creative team takes over (there is always a next creative team) and see if that suits your tastes better.

I hate that this needs to be posted, but here we go. The comic industry isn't dying. Sales aren't imploding. The most true thing about comics right now is that little has changed in the last 10-20 years. And that IS a problem... just not the problem we hear about. #comics /1
I completely get why some things are discouraging. Comics feel like they have changed a lot over the last ten years in particular, but in many ways comics have played it safe more than taken risks. But to a lot of readers the recent past is pretty disheartening. I get it. /2
Part of the problem is us. Me. You. We have access to a huge amount of content that 20-30 years ago was a bit harder to get. This means that amazing comics are at our beck and call whenever we want. It also means that the monthly crop of comics has no prayer of stacking up. /3

"Comics is an industry, not a community."

Well, yes and no. Comics is an artistic medium, of which "the comic book industry" is a facet. And people who make comics to publish on the web or to pass among friends are just as much comic creators as @BRIANMBENDIS and @fionastaples.
Just because you aren't signed doesn't mean you aren't in a band or that your music is no good. And there's a lot of shitty garage rock I *adore* because of what it brings to rock music. The work Devonte Hynes does on a tape recorder is still great music. Comics is the same way.
It's so tempting to talk about "breaking in" to comics, but that just refers to *one aspect* of the business side that monetizes the art form. Marvel and DC aren't the only people publishing comics; Scholastic does it. HarperCollins does it. First Second. Drawn+Quarterly.
