Yesterday my mom & I were discussing how December is the worst month - it's my dad's birthday, it's also when he died, and the god damn month seems to continue to accumulate traumas.
She pointed out that hating December does have some advantages though. For instance: January used to be a long, cold slog of a month but these days, once December is behind, I feel light & energetic again. Like a physical burden lifting.
Anyway just wanted to say that I am REALLY LOOKING FORWARD to December in the rear view mirror. sigh

I’m feeling a lot better now. It’s funny how grief works. Six years on, you’d think it would be getting easier, but this December was WAY harder than the last few years. I wasn’t prepared.
Anyway I’m back at work today after what feels like a lifetime of break (but was actually just 2 weeks).

Kinda looking forward to it. Hoping I remember my password😬

After two days of dealing with them in my replies, my overwhelming impression is that there are significantly fewer gamergaters than there were a few years ago, but the things they say have not gotten any smarter.
A typical example - unusually colorful metaphors, stronger than average spelling & grammar for this set...but equivalent in content to “ur soooo dumb hurrr hurrrr”

Never any substance. A screenshot of a tweet reply to me from @AmericanMinear that says, “That’s because you’re a moron with the observational skills of a cinder block at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.”
I suppose “never” isn’t quite true. Sometimes, one of them trots out a tired argument that is just as untrue and/or irrelevant now as it was 4 years ago when it was first proffered. Here are some examples:

Trump giving Saudis a pass on Khashoggi murder—maybe because he continues to benefit from Saudi rentals, hotel bookings & other payments to the Trump Org? Saudi gov't payments violate our Constitution’s chief public corruption prohibition. Our lawsuit holds Trump accountable.
As President, Trump seems to continue benefiting from the Saudis. According to @washingtonpost, a last-minute visit to NYC by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia to the Trump International Hotel in Manhattan enabled it to increase revenues in 2018 after 2 years of falling revenue.
The Saudis have been longstanding Trump partners, as he remarked in 2015: "Saudi Arabia, I get along with all of them. They buy apartments from me. They spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much."

Yesterday, @BarackObama came to California to campaign on behalf of Democratic congressional candidates. I joined a group of @KatieHill4CA supporters and volunteers at the event.

Surprisingly, it was some Republicans who stole the show.

Obama was speaking at the Anaheim convention center, which has a lot of memories for me. Back in 2015, I got to moderate The Force Awakens panel here where they revealed the “Chewie, we’re home” trailer. So now I have TWO very happy memories of this place.

Part of the fun was actually hanging around with other @KatieHill4CA volunteers, putting a name and a story to the faces we see only briefly at town halls or canvasing events. There were city council candidates @SmithForSC & @bretthaddock, among other election hopefuls.

I grow up in a lower middle class family whose parents worked as civil staff. My late dad is a low-ranked policeman, my mom is an attendant. She’d just retired at the age of 60 last year.
I grew up in a family who have no money, importance & knew nobody with connection, coupled with my dad’s personal things that complicate our family lives.
At the age of 12, I determined to get out of my family situation & live a better life. I see no other ways to do that other than through education. That was my only way. & as a kid who was thought to be independent by my mom & don’t have many friends, studying is my escapism.

Not one day did she ever want to talk about her life in Hitler Jungen, but said loud speakers bellowing rhetoric drove her crazy
3) That’s me on the right, my daughter in the middle, who is now 35 with kids of her own. We were stationed in Germany for 3 1/2 Years at Giebelstadt Air Base near Würzburg. She visited us from the States.
