The most genuinely confident people I’ve met are comfortable saying, “I don’t know,” ceding the stage to someone who does.
Know-it-alls masquerade as confident but tend to suffer from a deeply unaware insecurity.
For these folks, humbling experiences that reveal not knowing, or being wrong, isn’t the end of self, are gifts initially disguised as horrors (from experience).

The mainstream has almost entirely forgotten about #bitcoin again.
In conversations with people from home, many recall the #crypto hype from a year ago, but have stopped paying attention since.
Yes, there are a lot more “decisions makers” that have gained a basic understanding of #crypto, which is great.

And the technologists & financial folks that feed off the bleeding edge continue to pay attention, invest, or build, just as happened in 2015.

$ETH has been leading the #crypto market of late, likely in anticipation of the Constantinople upgrade in mid-January which will cut supply issuance by 33%.
2/ When it's showing up as a @binance announcement, it's fair to assume the information is starting to get baked into $ETH's price: support.binance.com/hc/en-us/artic…
3/ Notable that the market's not seeing red at the mere mention of a hard fork, too.

Instead the focus is on the supply-inflation cut + upgrading #Ethereum over time.

Shows me that we have more informed market participants & the daytrippers are long gone.

Reflecting on mentoring & networking chats I’ve had, in the US. People who didn’t come from money can be so afraid of looking like they want a “free handout” or can’t do things on their own. But people who come from money tend to ask for tons of things directly with no shame.
It’s something I have to be mindful of, because as someone who gets a ton of messages and requests it’s easy to just help out those who are most visible and forward. But they tend to also be the most privileged. I have to put in extra work to help those who need it most.
And when I do get a request, I’ve got to consider context and think, “Can I be doing more than this? What are they not asking for right now?”

(THREAD) The Whitaker scandal is deepening, as it becomes clear that Sessions' Russia recusal was a coordinated sham and his firing an act of obstruction—and that his replacement is a White House plant inside the Mueller probe. I hope you'll retweet and read on for more details.
1/ From 2014-17 Whitaker worked for World Patent Marketing—which during his tenure defrauded consumers out of $26 million and was successfully prosecuted by the feds. His involvement in the scam confirmed he had loose morals and that the feds would never want to employ him again.
2/ Despite the seeming impossibility of a man with Whitaker's background getting a job at Justice ever again—he'd been found to have used his former title as a US attorney to fraudulently threaten consumers with valid complaints with criminal penalties—Whitaker found an opening.

I've heard a lot of people say that transgender people are bullying others into "adopting their worldview." I have... some questions about that.
How would these same folks describe the huge uptick in graffiti designed to make trans women in particular feel absolutely horrid and unsafe? Like the "women don't have penises" (phallic) stickers placed in restrooms?
How would you describe the countless times trans people are described as delusional, mentally ill, disturbed, predatory — without hesitation, directly and publicly — simply because they... exist?

1/ I recently learned a way of framing trust – I don’t know who originally created this equation but I learned separately from @jorgestubbs and LifeLabs.

Trust = Credibility x Reliability x Vulnerability

Let’s talk about components of equation and I’ll explain why I love it.
2/ First- the variables are multiplied. Not a mistake. Implies a few things including that if any are absent, trust is impossible. For example, if you have Credibility and Vulnerability in a relationship, but not Reliability, trust won’t occur.

Lets go through each variable.
3/ Credibility- Is Person X able to do what they say? Does X have the experience, skills, qualities necessary to follow through on what she says she can do?

People may tell you that your belief is weak if you keep crying. Your parents may tell you if you prayed more, you wouldn’t be depressed. The imam at the masjid may say if you read Quran more, you’d be a better believer and wouldn’t be sad and have these problems.
But then you do pray, and you’re still unable to stop crying. And then you do read Quran, and your depression is crippling. And you do make dua - sincere, overwhelmingly emotional, present dua - and yet you don’t feel better and you feel like nothing has changed.
And so you yourself wonder: is God angry with me? Is Allah not answering my duas because I am not good enough? Am I going through all of this because Allah is punishing me? What have I done wrong? Why me?

Someone please explain this statement to me: "Sessions' Senate testimony probably wasn't actual perjury." Sessions twice prepared to be asked about Russia meetings by Congress, got asked direct questions on that very topic, and lied. What do Lawfare editors think "willful" means?
2/ @Susan_Hennessey, the evidence of intent in the Sessions case is *overwhelming*. When forced to come clean about two meetings with Kislyak, he still withheld information about a third. We know he lied about his reaction to George Papadopoulos' big "reveal" on his Kremlin ties.
3/ We know Sessions made numerous factually incorrect statements to support his initial lies—such as that senators regularly meet with the Russian ambassador. A CNN survey showed that in 2016 not one member of the Senate Armed Services Committee met with Kislyak besides Sessions.
