Speaking from experience, there are lots of White Evangelical &Reformed leaders who are willing to tell you on the side that they agree with you 100% about the deplorable state of race relations in the church in the US, but when push comes to shove, they will publicly disown you.
There are Christians of color who have found themselves in positions of leadership and influence in predominantly White Christian institutions who will be your greatest foe for making institutional changes toward racial justice when you expect them to be your greatest ally.
There are White Evangelical &Reformed Christians who will side with money, power, influence, and the "brand name" against the truth & truth-tellers. They'll take the gossip and slander from influential tyrants in the church about you rather than take the time to reach out to you.
Fear of the loss of donor money and/or approval is often the driving motivation for much of the actions and inactions made in predominantly White institutions. White supremacy holds the purse strings. They will retract, fire, hire, and recreate to appease fragile White donors.
As a former leader in one of these organizations and as someone who has dealt with the high profile leaders in this space, let me assure you that there is spiritual darkness going on. Most of it is hidden in the shadows, but the victims have scars and know the truth.
Pray for people who are working in these spaces to make worthy changes. People don't like it when their idols are challenged, and they lash back, often with tactics of ostracization, reputation scarring, and professional blacklisting. Pray for strength to fight the good fight.
