1/Some quick thoughts on #Yankees reaching agreement with Tulowitzki. They thought he looked athletic and healthy in workouts and see agreement as low-risk (MLB minimum)/potential high reward. Plan is for him to play SS. If he is even league avg and provides a bridge until
3/to bid and then see if Machado follows his heart to NY (to play 3b and insurance at SS if Tulo can't physically hack it) or follows $ elsewhere. It also is possible that this takes them out of Machado and they just are not making those plans public because
4/a)it would run afoul of the CBA and irritate the union to publicly say they are out, b)it would infuriate a big agent (Lozano) to hurt his leverage and why make an enemy, c)it is in NYY's best interest to see another team spend significantly to tie up future $.
5/If NYY do not land Machado, I would expect they would still try to enlist a Hechavarria type who would allow them to keep Torres at 2b and provide defense to rest Tulo plus play late for Andujar, though a LH bat could be the move (with Didi out), so maybe a reunion with
6/Neil Walker and Torres becomes the backup to Tulo. Yanks still have to trade Gray and I think part or the consideration there is how Machado/free agent relievers work out. If they solve issues in free agency, NYY then use Gray to get prospects. If not they use Gray to help
7/with the 25-man roster. I suspect much of this plays out this week or next as we likely find out where Machado, Ottavino and possibly Britton land.
