Nilda is a Honduran mother who came to the US w/her 2 y/o son, Kayden.

They were separated, held at five detention centers, & only reunited two months later.

They're seeking asylum, but face heavy financial & legal hurdles.

This is their story:
Nilda is one of 1M+ w/same story: little money & *no guarantee of a lawyer*

That's why we're partnering w/@BklynDefender & @ACLU_SoCal to raise $$$ for immigrants #WhileTheyWait & demand *universal right to counsel* for all in immigration court.

Join us: whiletheywait.org
There are 1M+ people in this country w/open immigration cases.

300K are seeking asylum.

But NONE are guaranteed a lawyer.

If they're lucky, they get services via orgs like us & @BklynDefender. Otherwise, they're alone in front of judges & ICE lawyers who want them gone.
It's a travesty of justice. One's chances of getting asylum go *way* up if you have lawyers to fight on your behalf.

It's literally the least we can do to those like Nilda who have fled violence to seek safety.

Instead, the system is set up to leave them alone so they fail.
When Nilda came into the country, a CBP officer took her son away & said "This is what happens when you come to my country.”

THIS IS OUR SYSTEM.

It's a calculated, intentional effort to attack immigrants. We deny them their humanity & put every obstacle up to stop them staying.
This has to stop.

Donate to our new #WhileTheyWait Fund to help those awaiting their immigration cases. Food, housing, transportation—immigrants struggle to get all of these while they wait months or years for an outcome in their cases.

Any amount helps: whiletheywait.org/#takeaction
And SIGN OUR PETITION to guarantee a right to counsel for everyone in immigration court.

You have a right to a lawyer if the government is trying to imprison you. It should be the same if it's trying to deport you. whiletheywait.org/#takeaction
We very thankful to everyone who helped w/this, especially @itsbennyblanco, @miguel, & @CalvinHarris for helping tell Nilda’s story, & @jakeschreier for directing.

Thank you. We need more cultural moments like this to raise awareness.
