Obedient little women, chanting the words dictated to them by a man: "Trans women are women, sex work is work"
Very weird that the media covered the protest and statements AGAINST Meghan Murphy, but not any of Meghan Murphy's talk itself.
Exceedingly lazy and biased reporting, allowing them to dismiss her as "controversial speaker", without inquiring or explaining.
Oh really?
Which transgender rights does Meghan Murphy criticize? Can you explain?
Do you do any actual journalism or are you happy to just to propagate slander?

Right, so buckle up: this is going to be a long thread about #trans representation in the media, trans responses to said media, and some thoughts on what we're doing wrong and what we could do right.

Ready? Okay.
There are two facts which are staggeringly apparent in the online UK #trans landscape at the moment:

1. The mainstream media is still in a transphobic backlash, and it's been getting nastier and more dangerous every month.
2. In our online communities - twitter and facebook in particular - we are spending WAY more time and attention responding to and magnifying these instances of backash than we are in promoting not only our successes, but even mildly positive or neutral works.

...but in all seriousness, Singal has written article after fearmongering article depicting trans activists as anti-science bullies who overreact to everything. he has helped pave the way for this...
...he acts shocked at this news, while at the same time he's been working on a pro-Zucker follow-up article & a book thrashing gender-affirming healthcare. he doesn't make a connection between the two, because it's all abstract to him. his life is never on the line...

this piece begins w/500 words on: 1) transgender is spectrum, 2) trans sub-categories aren't discrete, 3) trans trajectories are varied (& all are valid), 4) trans & cis are not mutually-exclusive (due to questioning ppl), 5) therefore cisgender is not a stable category
honestly, I don't know how anyone could write a realistic #trans/GNC #children article without stating all this from the get-go. unsurprisingly, Singal ignores most, if not all, of this. which is one of the reasons ppl find his piece so distorted/biased...
great, apparently another mainstream outlet just published another "but desistance" op-ed...ugh. btw, since ppl have been asking, not a single mainstream outlet has approached me about writing an informed response to @TheAtlantic piece...
