Very weird that the media covered the protest and statements AGAINST Meghan Murphy, but not any of Meghan Murphy's talk itself.
Exceedingly lazy and biased reporting, allowing them to dismiss her as "controversial speaker", without inquiring or explaining.

There are two facts which are staggeringly apparent in the online UK #trans landscape at the moment:

1. The mainstream media is still in a transphobic backlash, and it's been getting nastier and more dangerous every month.
2. In our online communities - twitter and facebook in particular - we are spending WAY more time and attention responding to and magnifying these instances of backash than we are in promoting not only our successes, but even mildly positive or neutral works.

I was raised by all women.

My father had gotten my mother pregnant when she was just 15. His father
insisted on an abortion or he'd 'write my pops out of the will'. My pops bailed.

My mother raised me--and 4 siblings--mostly alone.

Mom's water broke in biology class. she finished HS--preggo--with me, in 1975. There's pictures of me as the little cheer squad mascot for the #RioLindaKnights.

As I grew up, I remembered the power and influence and wisdom of WOMEN in my life. My Great Grandmother was the key:
Great Grandma Florence had bought 3/4 of an acre in #NorthSac (w/ her husband), when acres were $5.00 ea. They couldn't afford a full one! Great Grandpa died & I never knew him.

Grandma was our true #MATRIARCH. She had a huge garden w/veggies on one side, flowers on the other.

For me, the real issue in the #trans #GRA reform is #maleviolence against #female & trans. I note #transmen seem to be absent from discussion. They obvs don't present as #women so don't use women's spaces. But they can't draw attention to themselves as trans because... (1/2)
(2/2) in a male space they would run the risk of attack by men who would see their bodies as still female. I can't find stats on transmen being violent, or female violence on transmen. I guess there will be some, but very small no's. The problem is male violence. #patriarchy...
So we need to be looking at #male #violence and how/why our society raises #boys to think violence is a way of dealing with the world. NB I know this is a generalisation and not all males are violent & not all females are peaceful!

A major difference bt conservatives & the rest of us is that conservatives, for some reason, prioritize hypothetical violence above actual violence.

E.g. A woman MIGHT be assaulted in a bathroom > forcing #trans ppl to use the wrong bathroom actually IS dangerous for trans ppl
Militarized police are justified and necessary, because cops MIGHT get hurt during an occasionally dangerous job they agreed & are paid to do > people of color actually, currently being killed by cops
A not-yet-baby MIGHT experience SOME primal form of pain for a moment > Rates of death during childbirth are higher when women don't have access to legal abortion
