There is a vast gap between knowledge and it's practical application. When I started working in the early 80's there were no PC's or Word Processors and even when they became available, they were prohibitively expensive and accessible to few.
Business correspondence was done by dictating letters to a steno who would type them out on a manual typewriter and would then give you a typed draft for approval which you would review and give back after suitable modifications. It would often take 4-5 attempts were required
On my first day at work, I found that I had a tough time articulating my thoughts to dictate a simple letter. Even with an Engineering and CA degree this elementary skill which was essential took a few months to develop. It takes time for learning to become practical.
