As someone who has spent a lot of time reading and evaluating media fact-checks, this is the worst idea I’ve heard in awhile. Even the decent fact-checkers often have terrible and subjective ratings while evaluating political topics. And all people will see is the ratings.
One of the worst moments of the 2012 campaign was the Crowley debate “fact-check”. The media lost so much credibility with the right in that moment. This is just asking to have that happen constantly.
Take Politifact for example. Their facts are usually fairly good, but their ratings are consistently skewed to the point where they end up embarrassing themselves. Remember their lie of the year in 2013 was something they rated “mostly true” a few years earlier.
Exactly. I have no problem with media organizations presenting viewers with facts after a speech or debate, but fact check ratings are not facts. They are subjective.
