This is not a defensible position.
It's one thing to refuse to make any concessions or negotiate when the other side is doing the same thing (as Trump was), but not when they offer a compromise.
A few weeks ago, Dems were willing to give Trump 1.3-1.6 B for the wall + other border security $ in exchange for funding the gov’t.

Trump demanded 5B for the wall. Dems shifted to 0.

Now Trump offers 5B, but willing to extend Dreamer protections for 3 years. D offer still 0...

Oh good. Another Buzzfeed take. Yes, Phillips creates a confrontation, got in a kid’s face with a drum, and then went to the media to lie about every aspect of what happened and repeatedly smear a bunch of HS kids.

I don’t think an apology is sufficient, but it’s a start.
This guy behaved horribly, then lied repeatedly to the press. He smeared these kids in every way possible (accused them of being hateful, racist etc) knowing they’d have trouble responding (bc they are kids!!!).

And media’s takeaway a day later is he’s still the victim. #SMH

I was privately contacted by a different parent of a Catholic Covington student who was doxxed and harassed online despite not even being on the trip. Another parent told me they received calls and texts harassing them bc their kid appeared in the video.

These people are evil.
I hope the people, especially in the media, who helped stir up the outrage mob (& have mostly refused to correct it) based on the lies of an activist and a misleading video are proud of themselves. You really showed those kids and their families.
I know i've posted a million tweets about this already, but I have one more thought:

Why would the national media let the activist convince them to report on an interaction with HS kids, EVEN IF original narrative was correct?

It's obviously irresponsible.

In advance of MLK Jr. day, I recommend people read the full "I Have a Dream" speech. MLK articulated the most important argument of the CRM: America's founding principles are great, but the country was failing to live up to them.

This was a brilliant reframing of the debate by MLK. It wasn't us vs. them, but instead he said ALL Americans who support the Constitution and the DoI must support the promises those documents made to all Americans. In other words, opposing equality was un-American.
Now it was a debate not between blacks and whites, but between those who support freedom and American principles and those who oppose it.

MLK Jr. ensured a path to equality forever changed the country by appealing to America's principles. We are all better off because of it.

Listen up kids. So when #Trump wants to replace #SNAP benefits with a box of prepackaged dry goods, it’s not just about #fruits and #veggies. It’s about power, race, ethnicity, labor, energy, disability, and language as well.
2) What people eat and what people are supposed to eat and what people had access to eat has always been informed by power. In ancient times, it may have been the nobility eating meat and wheat bread while peasants ate potages. Nowadays, it’s what people should not eat.
3) Just because people are poor does not mean that they do not have their own food preferences, ideas about food, or habits around food. Folks who use SNAP/#foodstamps will use their benefits, as they are able, to buy the food they can afford within these frameworks.
