Wow. The fact that they felt compelled to respond on the record is significant. Buzzfeed has some real explaining to do. That’s why skepticism was clearly the correct approach to that report.

These anonymously sourced stories just do not have a oof track record.

Buzzfeed now has 2 choices: Either reveal sources or documents to back up their reporting or take a serious blow to their credibility.
Even more embarrassing that BF then ran a story assuming that story was true and insisting members of Congress comment on it as if it was accurate (notice lack of the word “allegedly”):
