From elementary school through college I went to school with sheltered upper middle class white boys who could DEVASTATE with a smirk. A facial guesture that weaponized their privilege. Infuriatingly you can’t fight that fucking smirk with a punch or words.
We saw that as Trump smirked his way through the election and we’ll see it at that boy from Kentucky’s friends, family, and school protect him.
I fucking hate that smirk. It says “I’m richer, I’m white, and I’m a guy. My existence trumps your experience.”
Few things make me as angry as that smirk. I’ve learned the best recourse is to ignore those fucks, and keep dismantling their power structures. #FuckEmThroughProgress

I was PLANNING to #amwriting in my cave.

But SOMEONE failed to properly charge hardware overnight. (That would be me. Sherlock would be convinced I’m drunk, but nope, just nearsighted.) I have just plotted a NEW swerve, but it’s gonna percolate.

I want to talk about the millenial burnout article through the lens of disability and chronic illness. I think the article has many valid points about say, capitalism and the need for unions, but makes some missteps.
First off, I absolutely believe that workers today (and particularly millenials) need greater labor protections. Reagan/Thatcher eroded a lot of the ones people fought and died for, and there are too many loopholes in ones we still have (like the 35 hour week).
But I'm...uncomfortable with how the author of the millenial burnout piece seems to be taking a systemic problem with capitalism and using the language of disability/chronic illness/neurodivergence to describe it.

Here is the thing about Bernie's "activism" in college, his being arrested at a protest etc...

I work at a University, for a lot of these rich/ upper middle class white kids protesting is seen as a cool subversive fun activity.
Like OMG there is going to be this protest it's gonna be lit we should go, we can be *part of something*
I had so many residents like this when I worked in housing. During the events following the death of Trayvon Martin they went to a march in Dallas and came back and explained it to me like I would explain going to an amazing concert.

So @ErikMKort and I are currently (and very slowly) reading through the book "Dr. Dobson: Turning Hearts Toward Home - The Life and Principles of America's Family Advocate" by Rolf Zettersten, who is basically a Dobson sycophant. He was Vice President of FotF for a while.
He is a bad writer. It's all very melodramatic and worshipful and gross and I hate it. Still somehow slightly less painful than actually reading Dobson, but low bar. I would like to include this picture of the back of the bookjacket and just let you enjoy that.

So, remember what I was saying earlier about engineering ethics including taking system safety into account at every step of the design process? So long as bad actors exist, **taking them into account would be a part of thinking about safety.**
