Taxing the rich is like audio compression (didn’t expect that one, did you?) The loudest parts are reduced, REVEALING the softer parts. It stops the loud from blasting you and prevents the soft from being barely audible. It prevents from having to keep adjusting the volume knob.
In other words, you don’t need to increase the least of us, nor “move” the excess “stuff” from those with the most to those with the least. You need to reduce (and disappear) the excess from those who have too much, so the least are suddenly more visible/powerful/audible/etc.
Even after the excess of the super wealthy is removed (power is reduced), they can STILL be heard just fine. The super rich are so obscenely powerful, so very loud, the volume knobs of our politicians have been turned so far down, they don’t even notice that the rest of us exist.
Our politicians need to turn down the volume and listen to *us*. They need to tell those who suck up all the oxygen to tone it down a bit. And if they can’t or won’t tone it down, then perhaps we should just go ahead and do it for them, whether they like it or not.
And if our representatives won’t, or don’t want to turn the power down of the super wealthy, then maybe we need to replace them with those who will.
In other words, it is impossible to “redistribute” wealth with federal taxes – and that’s okay. If you want to understand exactly why this is true, then take a look at this.
