1/ A major flaw in our society is the idea that “value” is only those things that can be measured or are monetarily profitable. I value when a local park doesn’t have trash all over the place, or my kids or elderly parents can have a book read to them, or a game played with them.
2/ I value my favorite song.
3/ I value the recorded history of slaves, as was done by the Works Progress Administration during the recovery from the Depression. loc.gov/collections/sl…
6/ Subjective human values. What is more important than enhancing, enabling, and providing for your citizens’ personal values? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. All three are subjective to some extent.
7/ Why does value have to be measured? Who defines how things should be measured? What IS value? The only things we should be worried about are the real world consequences of our actions. Forcing proper “measurements” & making sure “the maths work” is what’s killing our society.
8/ This is the true evil of Fiscal Responsibilitarianism:

- The ballooning national debt!
- Blow a hole in the deficit!
- How will we pay for it!?
- Our taxes will have to go up to pay for it!
- INFLATION!

All excuses to impose austerity on the people.
10/ The GOAL is austerity. The TOOLS are these pretend measurements & maths to scare the bejeebers out of an unknowing people. We are so afraid of this (nonsensical!) economic chaos, we would rather choose (actual!) death, suffering & bankruptcy then even dare ask for better.
11/11 This is not what #MMT teaches. What it teaches, however, makes things pretty clear.

As in @mattybram’s Federal Job Guarantee paper, “Working for a better world: Cataloging arguments for the right to employment” (pg 4, cas2.umkc.edu/econ/economics…), here are the benefits of stable employment. Most of these values are not measurable, but they’re each invaluable.
