Also, c'mon Gina, everyone knows that if you get whacked in Rhode Island, it's not about politics, it's because you didn't pay off the mob.
Double also, because this is Rhode Island, I see her every now and then on the street and she sometimes comments on my Oregon hat. This place is so weird.
The other thing about that is that the real power player in Rhode Island is not Raimondo, it's the horrible Speaker of the House Nicholas Mattiello, who is the worst Democrat in the United States, including Joe Manchin.
Raimondo has moderate popularity in Rhode Island, largely because of the absence of meaningful alternatives. But her real constituency is Beltway pundits, who freaking love her way beyond anyone in this state. She really is their ideal governor.
I also maintain that Frank Bruni is the worst columnist working at a newspaper today. I get what right-wing columnists do. I get that businessmen like Friedman. Fine, whatever. But who the hell reads Frank Bruni and say, yeah, that was good stuff? No one.
I grant that Bruni was a pretty good food columnist. But his political columns make the vapidity of Friedman, Dowd, the decaying corpse of Broder, etc. look like hard-hitting brilliance.
Maybe Bruni has dirt on James Bennet, like he had an opinion of his own that didn't follow the orthodoxy of Davos or something really embarrassing like that.
