the thing where decent people have to pretend billionaires are actual humans in order to flatter them into using their hoarded, unearned wealth for something to the public good is kind of ruining everybody's brains
like i get that it is hard to manipulate people when you are thinking of them as human beings and not a big blob of greed wrapped up in human skin but that doesn't mean they actually are
there are certain things that corrupt your soul in a way that makes it so that you just are so disconnected from the humane that you aren't a person anymore. you're a virus in a skin suit
all those things are forms of power. mostly money, but other kinds of power, too.
like i can see being a politician even with the absolute best intentions it would be very hard to be surrounded by agents of monstrous nature and live with yourself, that would be a very fine line to balance
but "pretend the wealth blobs are still human beings" feels like the wrong way to go about it
it just leads people to do this thing where they're like "this person i have interacted with many times cannot be a monster!" when they get caught beating their spouse or whatever
but power beyond the point where it can provide security and care for yourself and your loved ones is basically just like being possessed by demons and i have 0 confidence in anyone's ability to avoid this
especially when exercising that power puts you in contact with a bunch of other parasitic monsters, which is usually enough to override the decency of anyone who might be able to actually avoid corruption
concentration of power in a way that makes it easy to exploit others is a disease
it is a rot upon society
it is possible that this is a function of the incredibly corrupt bootlicker-rewarding system that we have running the world as a result of years of global white supremacy that this happens, it might not be a function of the human condition
but fundamentally the only long-term societal solution to this is to avoid concentrating too much power in individuals at all
every system has to be made with the intention of its leadership turning into monsters because that is just a thing that leadership regularly does
monstrousness is currently encouraged and defended. at every level. i have seen people lose their shit from the power that comes from people knowing who they are in a fucking hobby community
the only thing that separates a big name fan losing their shit and trying to wreck a fandom because they saw themselves wronged and elon musk going on his weekly dipshit plan to ruin the lives of someone who didn't want to deal with his bullshit is that elon musk can back it up
