Virginia Republicans defeated Tuesday a bill loosening abortion restrictions after the sponsor admitted that the legislation would allow the procedure even after the mother went into labor @WashTimes
A House subcommittee voted 5-3 to table H.R. 2491, called the Repeal Act, with all Republicans voting to table it and all Democrats voting against.
“Virginia House Democrats proposed legislation to allow abortions up to just seconds before that precious child takes their first breath,” said the Virginia House Republicans said on Facebook.

Federal prosecutors announced an indictment against 19 people accused of running “birth tourism” operations in Southern California that helped thousands of pregnant Chinese women visit the U.S. just in time to give birth—thus securing American citizenship for their children.
The Justice Department said it’s the first time the government has brought charges against such a business. Women were charged up to $100,000, were arranged visitor visas, then kept in apartments here in order to give birth. Chinese government officials were among the clients.

Troy Clark was born to single mother in San Antonio, Texas. His mother drank alcohol daily and used illegal drugs while she was pregnant. Troy was born with a cleft palette. He was constantly teased and harassed because of a severe speech impediment caused by the cleft palette.
Troy's mother and father were first cousins. Troy didn't meet his father until he was 17 years old. He didn't have much contact with his father's family. He only met his paternal grandfather once at a gas station. Troy's father had doubts about whether Troy was even his child.

Last night I promised a thread about #abortion before Roe v Wade legalized it nationally. Until the mid-1800s, common law allowed abortion until "quickening", when fetal movement can be felt. Toxic abortion remedies & doctors competing w midwives led to… 1/
laws outlawing abortion except where pregnancy was likely to be fatal spreading across the country. Bottled abortion remedies could be and were fatal, and doctors, almost all white and male, didn't want midwives competing with them for pregnancy care. 2/
