This is a good point. Reviving cities like Cleveland, Youngstown, St. Louis, etc., as well as uncountable small cities most people haven't heard of, is still a more important task than making San Francisco more affordable.

I admit that I don't understand how discouraging or taxing stock buybacks will encourage companies to pay their workers higher wages. What's the mechanism by which this would work?
@KClausing, @IvanWerning, do you know any good papers about this?
Also: This paper showed that a big dividend tax cut in 2003 left corporate investment basically unchanged. eml.berkeley.edu/~yagan/Dividen…

If effects of tax cuts and tax hikes are symmetrical, wouldn't this imply that taxing buybacks and dividends would leave investment unchanged?

Anyone can have a billion insights, but they are useless when you don't have the fitness and mental toughness.

I had to kill my ego/status to actually train hard everyday to live by my principles.
I'm starting boxing this week.

It will be a humbling experience, but I will enjoy it.

You'll never become truly great if you don't voluntary choose to place yourself at rock bottom over and over again with a beginner's mind.
I could count on one hand the number of people I've met who could match me in weighted pullups, but I was still intimidated by the MMA athletes.

Most people would have walked out and went back to what they were good at to massage their own ego.

But I stayed.

One million people died from hunger and disease because they could not afford to buy food. Hundreds and thousands were evicted from their homes. Over a million emigrated.

Libertarians: the British government interfered too much to resolve the crisis.
The Economist, a free market publication which was literally founded in 1843 to repeal the Corn Laws, argued against intervention by the British government by blaming the circa one million victims of the Great Famine for their own deaths (1847)

One reason the Founders put in the Electoral College was to avoid incentivizing states to loosen their suffrage laws. Under a national popular vote election, it would have been a race to the bottom toward universal male suffrage, or even women voting.
The EC does, of course, conform to the Founders intent of having the House, Senate, and POTUS varying degrees away from popular democracy. But since the POTUS/VP is the only interstate election, the Founders also needed a system that wouldn’t pit States in contest to add voters.
The EC gives states a share of the vote roughly proportional to their populations, without regard to how much of that population can actually vote. That is *exactly* what the Founders wanted.

Earlier this year, big dog @kobegatsby shot me a link to a podcast that featured one of the founders of Sunny Co Clothing.

If you've been living under a rock, this was the legend (Brady) who created the red bathing suit campaign that went viral on Instagram.
Funny enough, I found out earlier today that one of my coworkers was Brady's good buddy from college and actually saw the campaign blow up live in class.

First of all, small fucking world.

Second of all, I was insanely intrigued.
