Stroll down Alcalá after dinner & you’ll find Elisa and Jose Manuel serenading everyone for tips 2 cover their music college expeneses. All around dozens of indigenous vendors who travel from surrounding pueblos sell their handmade wares.
When traveling 2 Oaxaca, always bring an empty suitcase because you’re guaranteed 2 go back with chapulines, embroidered shirts, chocolate, art books, alebrijes, pottery and Oaxacan spices you won’t find anywhere else.
In Oaxaca, homemade ice cream is huge. It’s what many families enjoy after Sunday Mass. You’ll find dozens of flavors sold on the street & in posh boutiques. My favorite spot is a kiosk at the 125 yr old Benito Juárez market. Chagüita has been selling ice cream for 4 generations
