Lol so XPO started a factoring program, and the first analyst question was "do you guys have a liquidity issue, why else would you be doing this"
They also had a postal injection client cut business by 2/3rds ($600mm revenue), which along with European macro is the whole miss. Not much to chew on re: US macro so far.

Some stuff on Uber, using a quick survey of media reports on their financial conditions back to Q4 '16.

Using Uber's "Adjusted net loss" figure (-768mm in Q4), I show YoY incremental margins of -35.7% on a net revenue basis, -9.5% on a gross revenue basis.
Keep in mind that the adjusted figure is all sorts of hokey, massaged, and made pretty.
Gross revenue = what people pay for rides
Net revenue = what Uber gets after drivers.

"Net" (see above) incremental margins are negative, but they have been on a YoY basis for quite a while now.

What's really crazy is the incremental margin on *gross* revenue is also negative.

Having a really hard time taking the claims that AMZN's HQ2.a/b was critically important to a city with a million 7 figure net worth residents and a 3.9% unemployment rate seriously.
I think what's useful about the whole situation is exposition and earnest discussion around the combination of 1) economic development 2) gentrification 3) corporate welfare and how the three relate to eachother.
There is a faction that claims the whole situation is a massive loss for NYC because any large employer swiping left is a tragedy. I think, frankly, that is nuts.

Not that it matters, but how does requisitioning resources without Congressional approval poll with the GOP? Has anyone even asked this?
Note: the priors in my mentions are "they'll follow the leader". I'd probably assume that too, but curious if there's anything more than our assumptions out there.

One of the cultural things I love most are Podcasts- I pretty much alternate between Podcasts & Music in my ears every free minute. I'm always up for a recommendation- so I'll throw out a few I love & I'd love to hear what you're into!

A properly functioning guest worker program would reduce undocumented immigration & make it harder for companies to exploit their workers.

That last one is probably why we don’t have a functioning guest worker program.
See, right now an employer can hire undocumented workers and underpay & abuse them, safe in the knowledge that if their employees complain, the employer can just call ICE.

And because ICE is so brutal, the worker is less likely to complain.
But since we underpay pretty much 90% of the population, we continue to allow this abuse to “keep prices low.”
