Fellas, need the perfect gift a woman this #ValentinesDay?

I have THE. BEST. thing for your GF /wife, it’s not too late for it, & it won’t cost you a thing. Want to know what it is?

Egalitarianism. 🧵:
My wife & I have been married 17yrs + known ea/other 5yrs before that. Both raised in “model” complementarian, Godly homes. Both raised in the best ⚪️ evangelical, patriarchal, CN churches a 🐺 could want to dine in. Been to all the marriage conferences. Weekends to Remember.
Premarital counseling. Post-marital counseling. Love & Respect 🤢, DR Financial Peace Univ graduate w/ honors. A theobro among theobros. As to snark, the snarkiest. One of the most keep-women-in-their-place-but-in-love you could’ve cringed to meet. What changed me? Listening.

Romance is an uprising in the name of your humanity.

It is imperative that we write our own stories of love so that we are not objects of geopolitical hypocrisies but instead subjects of our own romances.… #ValentinesDay
Who is considered worthy of love, who is allowed to want it?

Who is considered worthy of freedom and who is allowed to want to be free?

The answer to those questions is also the answer to who is worthy of living and who is allowed to live. #ValentinesDay
Because the answer to all those questions undergirds our very humanity.

Love. Life. And Liberty.

Fuck the pursuit of happiness if only those who dehumanize me are considered worthy of it. #ValentinesDay

Today, February 14, is not only #ValentinesDay. It is the day one of the most eminent abolitionists and orators in U.S. history *chose* to celebrate his birthday. Like many Black people born into slavery, Frederick Douglass did not know his birthday. A thread 1/
Douglass was born into slavery on a Maryland plantation around 1818. He did not know the exact date of his birth. Douglass chose February 14 because of a tender memory he had of his mother, Harriet Bailey, which was also the last memory he had of her. 2/
In "My Bondage and My Freedom," Douglass writes of his mother making him a ginger cake "in the shape of a heart, with a rich, dark ring glazed upon the edge of it." As historian Dickson J. Preston notes, Douglass also said that his mother called him her "Little Valentine." 3/

This is LOVE!

1 John 4:7-11
Beloved, let us LOVE one another: for LOVE is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for GOD is LOVE.
In this was manifested the LOVE of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is LOVE, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to LOVE one another.

What amazing LOVE!

1 John 3:1
Behold, what manner of LOVE the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God.

February 14 is NOT Christian. It is a day celebrated as Lupercalia (known as the “festival of sexual license”).

This demonic day was held by the ancient Romans in honor of Lupercus, god of fertility and husbandry, protector of herds and crops,
2. and a mighty hunter—especially of wolves. The Romans believed that Lupercus would protect Rome from roving bands of wolves, which devoured livestock and people.

Assisted by Vestal Virgins, the Luperci (male priests) conducted purification rites by sacrificing goats…
3. a dog in the Lupercal cave on Palatine Hill, where the Romans believed the twins Romulus and Remus had been sheltered and nursed by a she-wolf before they eventually founded Rome. Clothed in loincloths made from sacrificed goats and smeared in their blood, the Luperci would…

I usually ignore Valentine’s Day and I rarely talk or write about love. But much like with religion, if you don’t claim your right to shape, critique and make demands of love...
...if you don’t stake a claim, even if you don’t practice–you cede the ground to the absurd, the foolish, and the nonsensical.

So here I am, staking my claim to love, as a feminist in love and in my 50s.

i.e. I am both practicing and preaching.…
I wanted nothing to do with love when I was younger. I started having nightmares when I was 17 that I’d married the wrong man.

My subconscious knew something my conscious took years to understand: I was neither heterosexual nor monogamous.

Kiss me with rain on your eyelashes,
come on, let us sway together,
under the trees, and to hell with thunder.

No smoke without you, my fire.
After you left,
your cigarette glowed on in my ashtray
and sent up a long thread of such quiet grey
I smiled to wonder who would believe its signal
of so much love…

There were never strawberries
like the ones we had
that sultry afternoon
sitting on the step
of the open french window
facing each other
your knees held in mine…

Oxford was the setting for several key events of the English Reformations. A particularly tragic event took place in the Cathedral #OnThisDay in 1556: the Degradation of Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury.

Read the #thread to learn more about this sad moment in #history...
Following 2 trials, 1 for High Treason and 1 for Heresy, Thomas Cranmer was excommunicated, and for a time was placed under house arrest here at @ChCh_Oxford. Whilst here, Cranmer dined at High Table and engaged in theological debate with scholars. But on 14th February 1556...
Cranmer was processed into the Cathedral, and a Papal Bull from Pope Paul IV was read to him in the Chancel stripping him of Holy Orders. He was then led out of the Chancel, and brought into the Cathedral Cloisters for a final humiliation where...

BBC , India and the tax survey. How the world is viewing it all.
This morning on #ValentinesDay Income tax officers in India carried out a raid (sorry, Survey) on the offices of @BBCIndia.
The BBC of course reported it as just another story, and made the obvious link between this latest run in with the Indian Govt and their niow (in) famous documentary "India - the Modi Question".
They stated that the BBC was "fully co-operating" with [the] authorities, and hoped "to have this situation resolved as soon as possible," But they also took the obvious opportunity to explain the background.

On the occasion of #ValentinesDay which is not at all part of our culture, A #Thread for people who read me here.

There are high possibility that we can be trapped into toxic relationship with manipulative people nowadays because of the society & culture shift we have.
Manipulative people are highly skilled at picking their victims. They select people who are vulnerable either because of their past or because they have high levels of empathy.
Here are 5 important things to understand:

1. Manipulative people identify their target, then make them feel like the most special person in the world by showering them with compliments, affection, and gifts. At the time, the victim is likely to feel like lucky to have them.

First of all, it's #ValentinesDay and SOMEONE is going to get massacred today when the #CPI is released, so naturally:-

Roses are red, violets are blue,
JayPow doesn't know
And neither do you.

#inflation's effects are not as universal as they were, but does that mean we can all now relax?

2 things (trying to stay off hellsite)

2. I have a research question, brought on by @GhoshAmitav 's writing on health impacts of colonialism & 'terraforming' on indigenous populations. Does anyone know of research on pre-colonial demographics: ...
life expectancy, health, infant mortality...?
My guess is that these would be highly variable, depending on geographic & social circumstances, but likely *better* than during colonialism.
The current datasets we use all show the benefits of modern infrastructure (incl health)...

Dear Gurgaon,
Today I sit at my desk to write a letter to you, my love.
You embraced me when I played in your arms during the rain.

Your green cover, birds chirping, women giggling while going to the well, and children playing in the pond. I miss that all.

The birds chirping was my alarm for the day; the giggling of the woman going to the well to fill water, the children jumping in the pond, I miss that all.
Both of us have forgotten each other. Maybe I have failed you more than I used to love you.

The beauty you had when the corn used to grow was like your long hair, yours with the mustard flower on your long silk hair.

This #ValentinesDay we’re reflecting on 10 years of campaigning to protect the landscape setting of Old Oswestry hillfort.

We’re brokenhearted.

Another housing-estate application, submitted to a broken planning system, full of broken heritage promises.

#ShropshireCouncil planners used to respect the hillfort, ensuring that modern housing was held behind the natural screen of The Coppy. Now, planners want to push modern housing out into the setting of a nationally important hillfort, 300 m from the rampart. #HillfortHeartbreak💔 Image

Valentine's Day a thread 🧵🧵🧵
Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14
It originated as a Christian feast day honoring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world

Did you know?

"Valentine's day" is named after Saint Valentine .

He was a Christian bishop and a physician. He refused to treat his own fatally sick mother because she would not give up her belief in pagan God Jupiter and get baptized.

The disease kiIIed her! #ValentinesDay
According to the Catholic Chronicle Legenda Aurea (compiled in c. 1275 CE), Saint Valentine was described as "destroyer of non Christian pagan idols"
Valentine was abusing Non-Christian Gods & creating communal conflict.

He was jailed. Romans promised to release him if he toned down.

"What is your opinion on (our) Gods Jupiter & Mercury"- they asked. '

"Wretched and foul men. Filthy. Carnal. Of filthy birth'-He answered
