Now for this week...
You have to have a goal or capacity in mind based on the land available. This is important in order to get the right design and plan subsequent expansions. Roads and entrances should be clearly outlined and planned for.
- Recommended distance should be the width of each house on the farm
- Brooder and Grower houses should be away from frequent activity areas and usually an extreme location away from other facilities.
- Your farm design should not allow visitors, office staff and outside vehicles come in contact with your birds.
- Younger birds should be kept at less frequented and calm area(s).
In week one, we defined what poultry farming is to be the process of raising domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese for the purpose of farming meat or eggs for food. The house in which you raise them are called pens.
This means you have to keep your pen and equipment in good working condition at all times – physical fittings, wire nets, floors, foot dip, among others.
Poultry cages forms a huge financial cost in the poultry business. You need to maintain them properly so as to reduce to overall cost and not affect your profitability due to frequent replacement or repairs.
It will will be a Q and A session where you have the chance to ask questions so far from the first 6 lessons on poultry farming and business within 8 and 9pm. I will put up a post by 8pm and respond to questions under the thread.
