switching gears now to the city budget work session at 6! i highly encourage cville folks not attending the budget meeting to go to the community input forum with the police civilian review board at legal aid justice center’s office, also at 6.
i wrote about the budget this week for @cvillenews_desk. i hate budget season, but it is undeniably important!

one of the “remaining budget issues” is whether or not they will proceed with raising the real estate tax rate. there were enough councilors in support of raising it at a meeting on the 16th, but councilor galvin had revoked her support at last week’s work session.

as expected, james alex fields has changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on 29 federal hate crime charges - one for the murder of heather heyer and 28 counts for injuring or attempting to injure 28 living victims, because of their race, ethnicity or nation of origin.
in exchange for pleading guilty to the first 29 counts on the federal indictment, the 30th charge, which carried the death penalty, was dropped. the plea included an agreement that life imprisonment was the appropriate sentencing guideline for all 29 charges.
fields will be sentenced on these federal charges on july 3rd. his sentencing for his conviction on 10 charges, including first degree murder, by the commonwealth of virginia is also in july, on the 15th. the jury recommended life + 419 years on those charges.

today is another heavy day for charlottesville. please hold the survivors of the august 12th terror attack in your hearts today as they prepare for what will likely be a guilty plea from fields on his federal hate crime charges.

The #mind is a guide for great journeys. If you are going somewhere, the mind is very happy; in your going somewhere the mind can feel enhanced. But if you are not going anywhere, just sitting #silently, doing nothing, the mind feels very #sad.
It will happen almost always to meditators that when the mind feels sad, it starts creating #boredom for you; that is a strategy of the mind. The mind is saying, "Come on! Let us go somewhere, let us do something. Why are you sitting? Just sitting doing nothing brings boredom!"

This is never a good sign. It can be turned around if you know beforehand and you frame it as "bring a hot friend for my friend". But it's always better to date one on one.
She picks the most expensive restaurant in the city.

That happened to a veteran friend of mine in Kiev who made a rookie mistake and he let her choose the restaurant. Never let her choose.

Day 3 of #ScaryMovieMonth If you were a fan of It Follows, then check out Lace Crater. Don't watch the trailer, it gives the whole movie away. There's light visual horror, but that isn't what will make you cringe—it's the intimacy of watching it all go down. It's so absurd.
Day 4 of #ScaryMovieMonth is a twofer. The Aussie movie Wolf Creek came out in 2005 (rent on Amazon for 3.99) & it is BRUTAL. It could very well make you puke from fright & then those weird scary bastards went & made a whole terrifying series out of it (also called Wolf Creek).
Day 5 of #ScaryMovieMonth my recommendation is Unsane with Claire Foy. Being gaslighted into thinking you're crazy, being in a place where women are only believed when the truth is profitable & a man obsesses over controlling you—it is on the nose horror for today.

We are creatures of habit. Our brains are constantly seeking new ways to save effort by automating our behavior. Trying to fight this automation is an uphill battle. We’re much better off using conscious effort to design habits that work for us. 1/12
Habits usually follow has a 3-part loop: cue, routine, reward.

The cue is what signals to your brain to initiate the habit. The routine is the activity that we consider as the habit. The reward is something desirable that is accomplished by the routine. 2/12

About an hour later when I heard him climb into bed and turn the other way, I finally let out the breath I was holding. I managed to escape the sex tonight. By the time I woke up the next morning, I knew we were going to have another round of noise and fight
