So I've been tweeting for the last few days about the Birmingham school where (largely Muslim) parents have been organising against the 'No Outsiders' LGBT programme.

People need to pay more attention because this controversy is likely to get bigger.

If we don't stand up for children being taught that there's nothing wrong with being LGBT and such bullying is wrong, it will be a huge setback.

This controversy is no longer about Muslims because conservative Jews, Christians and Sikhs are also rallying to their side. 2/n
In a video posted today of a rally outside the school, one of the mobilisers says, 'we want to stop these lessons not just in Birmingham but across the country'.

He also says the problem is it teaches children its ok for you to be Muslim and be gay.

Also, she says she is American, which implies American conservatives are also watching this
On Monday, a Jewish man came to support the protests. He says he's appalled at the "indoctrination and sexualisation" of children and fully supports them.

UK Orthodox Jewish groups have long complained about teaching children that its ok to be LGBT

I'm told a rep from a Sikh school was also given a platform today to say he supported the protests, but I haven't been able to confirm that on video.

If parents objected to their children being taught to treat black or Muslim kids with respect, that ok?
The Left is going to have to stop pussyfooting around and come out in force to defend LGBT equality or this battle will be lost for decades.

Our enemy aren't Muslims (plenty of Muslims outraged at this too) but traditional conservatives who've always been homophobic.

What's notable about the Tory Islamophobia problem is that, other than a few lone voices, there really aren't many Tories in angst over it.

They've seen it and they're ok with it.

At least Labour activists are fighting AS. Tories have no similar desire to fight racism.
That's partly why the media isn't paying it much attention either. It's more of a story when a party is infighting over something.

The Tories aren't infighting over it. They're cool with it. Even their remaining minorities won't admit it's an issue.
In other words, media (esp. BBC) coverage of the different controversies is driven less by their severity, and more by the reaction.

And because Tory reaction is muted, it ends up getting less coverage.

(that last point is less applicable after Luciana Berger's resignation)

I really, really hate the idea of defending someone like Shamima Begum. I vociferously hate ISIS and everything they stand for.

But the Home Secretary is abusing his powers by stripping someone off their British citizenship. It sets a very dangerous precedent.
Imagine if someone commits a crime abroad and they're just disowned by their country. They are left with no right to travel anywhere, live anywhere or even seek a trial.

The Tories will abuse this precedent as every govt has abused terrorism powers to lock up critics.
Shamima Begum should have been brought back to Britain and put on trial here. There she is a threat to locals, who hate ISIS more than we do!

I have no issues with locking her up. But leaving her stateless is an appalling decision.

It is another example of how Leavers continue to bamboozle Remainers by playing an entirely different game. [thread]
DK's tweet isn't about facts (so fact-checking is a waste of time) - it tells a story about Britain. It's the same story Leavers have been repeating for the past year:

'Britain managed to overcome adversity before, we'll do it again. We are more powerful than our enemies think'
The tweet stirs up emotion (pride) among Leavers. They may know that its not entirely accurate - but they don't care. The SENTIMENT matters more. Its a short story about British history and evokes a strong emotion.

At this point, ridiculing or fact-checking is USELESS.

So this is what I just watched go down in Springvale. I just wanted to grab some fuel and a bite to eat! *THREAD*

I'm driving down Springvale Rd when I see a huge plume of thick white smoke cover the street and surrounding area, I had no idea what was causing it or where it was,
but the amount of smoke meant there was clearly something wrong. I immediately pull over and dial 000 and ask for the fire brigade to attend. While on the phone I'm told they have another call who says a car has crashed and it is a car fire,
so I move the car a bit closer and get out to see if I can get a better look. I was on the other side of a busy road so I didn't want to just run across.

I see all the damage done by the car but can't see the car where it really should be, that's because the car is still moving,

Let's step back and look at population of ILLEGALS in USA.
Government for the last 10+ years has admitted to 11 million.
An ex ambassador FROM Mexico claims the number of MEXICANS living (illegally) in US is 30 million.
This is what 11-30 million ILLEGALS combined equals:

If the population includes 30 million Mexican nationals, that means more than 9% of our population are potentially a major Mexican army.

I understand that some dis org may not understand this issue. However, it is not the job of activists to spend time ploughing through reports.
2/ You need to read the Productivity Commission's Oct 17 report (screenshot above, blind folks, too long 2 describe pc.gov.au/inquiries/comp… ) And you also need to pay more attention. The way they are limiting & capping the scheme is well known and it is at the directive of govt
3/ This has been released, read, understood. And it DIRECTLY affects your membership, so you need to listen to those members (I know you do already, but we hear it every day on the ground.)I will reinforce some of the issues here which outline WHY you need to harmonise messages.
