Guys, I am about to reveal the secret of all comics, the thing they don't want you to know that everyone on the inside is taught to keep completely quiet, but I am going to break the rules and reveal because... what do I have to lose?
Every panel of every comic takes place in a different universe.
It's true--comic book panels are actually a sophisticated interdimensional viewing portal. The technology was developed long ago, but no one could think of a practical application because once you take ONE snapshot of time, you can never see that same universe again.
But eventually, the organizing principle of realities was discovered, and it was realized that there are clusters of nearly infinite universes "next to" each other (so to speak) so that you can take a snapshot of one moment, then move to the "next" universe...
...and it's close enough to the previous that it appears to be contiguous. All the panels placed in order appear to be telling one coherent story, even though what happened in the world of panel 1 of a comic is NOT what happened on the last panel of the issue.
That also means that the last panel of the most recent X-Men comic is literally millions of universes away from the universe of the first panel of the original X-Men #1. The distance was traveled one panel/instant at a time, nevertheless, it's a completely different place.
That accounts for any discrepancies in the stories we tell--generally, all the universes in a single issue are close enough together that they have a shared past. Even all the universes over months and years worth of stories.
But sometimes, we've traveled so far from previous universes we've snapshotted that we're in a world where their past's contradict. And as much as I want it to be, the technology just is not there to go back to those previous worlds--don't think our scientists are not trying.
And if you're wondering why they consistently call the universe "616" in the stories when I am saying it's millions of different universes... that's just the people of those worlds demonstrating their limited understanding of how other realities work.
Anyway, thanks for listening. I am sure there will be those who try to discredit what I've revealed today, but that is even more proof that I am revealing something so true they want to make people dismiss it quickly. Don't be fooled.
