There’s been so much noise about my views on foreign policy, I decided it needed more than a tweet. washingtonpost.com/opinions/ilhan…
TL;DR: I believe we must center human rights, justice and peace as the pillars of America’s engagement in the world. That means applying those standards to our friends as well as our enemies (and ourselves).
That means we can’t speak up about human rights abuses in Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua if we do not also support those fighting for human rights in Honduras, Guatemala, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, the Palestinian territories and around the world.
When it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we must fight for self-determination, security, and peace for both peoples. That’s why I support a two-state solution.
We also have to hold everyone involved accountable for steps that undermine peace—whether through ever-expanding settlements or human rights violations in Gaza.
Fighting for peace and human rights is what motivated me to run for office—and this is why I will continue to speak out on these issues! ✊🏽
