On this day 24 years ago, my family arrived in the United States of America, a land of democracy and opportunity
Today, I have the honor to vote with the likes of John Lewis—a man who put his life on the line for voting rights— to strengthen that democracy
It’s also not lost on me that today is #InternationalWomensDay. What better way to celebrate than to join the first female Speaker of the House and a record number of women in Congress to restore our democracy?
HR1 will:

- Make it easier to vote
- End big money in politics
- Ensure public officials work for the public interest

We’re going to change Washington #ForThePeople! 💪🏽

Our democracy is built on debate, Congresswoman! I should not be expected to have allegiance/pledge support to a foreign country in order to serve my country in Congress or serve on committee. The people of the 5th elected me to serve their interest. I am sure we agree on that!
I have not mischaracterized our relationship with Israel, I have questioned it and that has been clear from my end.
I am told everyday that I am anti-American if I am not pro-Israel. I find that to be problematic and I am not alone. I just happen to be willing to speak up on it and open myself to attacks.

Let’s dig into why that is. The CEO-to-worker pay gap at McDonald’s is 3,101 to 1 globally—the largest of any company surveyed.

As I noted in committee, McDonald’s CEO earns $21.8 million *per year*.

The median worker worldwide earns just $7,017. nrn.com/finance/sizing…
Now let’s look at how McDonald's treats its U.S. workers.

In 2015, the company promised to pay workers at least $1 above the local minimum wage. According to their own employees, they broke that promise. fortune.com/2018/04/02/mcd…

This week in MN, we’re expecting -60 wind chills. In this life-threatening frigid cold weather, my heart aches knowing there are people living in cars, under bridges, and if lucky, couch hopping.

Our homelessness crisis is not a crisis of scarcity, but a crisis of moral clarity.
Our homeless crisis is America’s dirty little secret.

This year we’ll spend around 700 Billion on the military. With an investment of up to 20 billion we could house every homeless person in the US.
In the richest country in the world there’s no reason we can’t guarantee the right to affordable quality housing to everyone in the U.S.

And in 116th Congress, this should be a top priority!

I saw George Takei speak last night about his life and career.
A life that has seen Japanese internment camps, the violence that accompanied the civil rights era, the struggle for LGBT recognition and basic dignities.
And a career that saw him offered roles as humiliating stereotypes and having to keep his most important relationships a secret to protect it.

Yes, our government has been taken over by Russia using their agent trump, getting financial backing from far right libertarian Billionaires, propaganda by Fox, votes from radical religious and hate groups, enabled by a complicit corrupt Congress owned by those same billionaires!
