google is going to buy up silent hill and have two amazing games released solely on Google Ouya and when they shut it down we'll lose them forever but at least we can be reassured that we'll learn nothing from the process and do it all again next year
"we" learn nothing from the process because there is no "we". megacorps have the money to produce 50,000,000 of a thing and all the infrastructure without asking a single person if they want it
so they will make it, and it will be in stores, and then you and everyone else will say "oh well i mean it makes no difference now, it's not like it'll be undone if i don't buy it" and you're right
and if it "fails" then it fails. it doesn't matter. nobody can prevent this from happening. if they DO decide to buy up some beloved game franchises they can just do it. nobody on the planet can stop them.
every tech companys MO:
- spend an unholy amount of money snowing a few people (execs and a handful of little people to vouch for them)
- deploy the actual thing at 1/100th the actual cost
- Oh, It Doesn't Work
- haha we already got our $5m paychecks idiots
nobody, anywhere, can stop them in their unhinged blue-sky speculation, and they'll leave a trail of bought-and-closed companies, untouchable eternal patents, and inert hydrocarbons and silicon in their wake. teehee, on to the next scam
"consumers" is an infinite pool. you cannot possibly reach enough people with a boycott to matter, unless the boycott is over something like "people are being murdered to create this" and we can see how much good that did
to 95% of people most of the complaints about this will instantly and irrevocably classify you as the niece that went off to college and came back with All These Ideas
labor? archival? poor people? iowa? yawn. i bought it and plugged it in and it works great
it's just a product. it has no ramifications. most people are not wonky enough to process the implications.
