i think the thing that infuriates me the most is this last part. they are consuming material resources to create scam chaff. little electronic devices never meant to work for longer than it takes to get their money and run
go to goodwill. look at the vast piles of forgotten little plastic boxes. ask yourself how many of them kept the subterfuge going more than a few days
millions of little plastic boxes that got a few sad, unsatisfying uses before they were cast aside, "too cheap to return." the advent of the $1 plastic thing was the dawn of a billion companies making billions of $1 plastic things
every goodwill contains tens of thousands of dollars, minimum, of plastic and silicon. like a fucking acrylonitrile butadiene styrene monolith, a monument to waste in the pursuit of pennies of profit per capita
all lies. lies we do nothing about. the company that made 1.5 million ipod speaker docks that barely produced any listenable sound faced no repercussions. they pulled tens of thousands of barrels of oil out of the ground and just lit them ablaze.
and now they aren't intended to fuzz anyone. the consumer isn't meant to believe any of this works. the magic of cheapness and national marketing and OVERNIGHT SHIPPING means nobody will return anything. the consumers only need to be fooled for a brief, fleeting moment
and nobody feels very hurt by it. not enough for a class action, and a damn hard one to prove

don't we have bigger problems

it was only $15

i really don't want to go to the UPS store
the consumer is a guaranteed sell. we'll buy any piece of plastic, sign up for any service. we will nickel and dime our bank accounts to oblivion because it's always different brands putting new plastic in front of us
so the consumer disappears. because we will buy it, no question about that. the cost will be absorbed, no question about that. the only thing that matters is: will the rich gamble on it?
how many pieces of non-working plastic and silicon are in your house? do you dare to enumerate that figure? how much shit that just didn't, on reflection, actually work?
