Now that #Oklahoma and #Texas have officially withdrawn from the #Big12-2-2-2, several academic institutions in the league have started the process of backchanneling (while of course remaining committed to the Big12-2-2-2) for a new home.
Not wanting my own beloved college cast aside to a G5 league that is more aligned with our aspirations and history, Iโve taken it upon myself to produce a similar piece, so that another elite league may choose to add us and carry us on their financial shoulders.

Some people say that one shouldn't care about publication and the quality matters. However, the job market punishes those who donโt have publications in top ML venues. I empathize with students and newcomers to ML whose good papers are not getting accepted. #ICLR2021

Long thread at the risk of being judged:
I just realized that in the last 6 years, 21 of my 24 papers have been accepted to top ML conf in their FIRST submission even though the majority of them were hastily-written borderline papers (not proud of this). How is this possible?

At this point, I'm convinced that this cannot be explained by a combination of luck and quality of the papers. My belief is that the current system has lots of unnecessary and sometimes harmful biases which is #unfair to new comers and anyone who is outside of the "norm".

I started playing #guitar in college. Some of my friends back home played, so I thought I'd learn. It's been years since I kept up with it. With no job and an empty house, I had time. Plus, I could crank up my amp. Ava would have hated it. All the more reason to do it.

Strumming a few chords or playing a riff through a loud amp usually makes me feel better. It's more of a distraction this time. My amp is a little old. Even a #ragpicker might pass on it. "If you're not going to play it, sell it," Ava nagged. Life always got in the way.

Or I got in the way. Not even ten years ago I kept getting sick all the time. Painful stomach cramps would radiate weakness throughout my body. I learned how to wash it away like healing #rainwater. That's when I really started to figure out who I was and what I could do.
