Tonight, I’m proudly celebrating the work of Access Community Health Centers at their banquet with my friend and mentor Charlie Daniel, past board president, and her granddaughter—and my goddaughter!—Copper Daniel. Community Health centers fo amazing work.
Copper and I posed at the step and repeat for a celebratory photo.
Then, to my surprise, another guest walked in and introduced himself to Copper. Copper, meet Governor Tony Evers. @GovEvers, meet Copper Daniel.
The governor also met the drummers, who were excellent.
@GovEvers spoke to the 700+ celebrants and made the case for working together to expand Medicaid here in Wisconsin. This crowd—care providers, community partners, advocates—understands how vital this fight is.
If you believe in community health centers—which, justly, enjoy broad bipartisan support—then you should believe in expanding Medicaid.
Access Community Health Centers provide something vital that the US health care system so often leaves out: dental care. The lack of affordable dental care for millions of Americans is a tragedy and an outrage.
Access Community Health launched 40 years ago in Madison. Today, they serve 28,000 patients—with 126,000 patient visits—across 5 centers, plus mobile dentistry care that visits schools to serve kids, free of charge. “Our community is only as healthy as our most vulnerable people”
The great people of @AccessCHC know that providing health care to the most vulnerable means building a society that cares about everyone. Maybe that’s why Paul Wellstone spoke at their first dinner.
