If you were involved in the fight against ACA repeal, we need you now. And if you weren’t, we need you now, too. Wisconsin voted for Tony Evers because they believe expanding health care. He put it in the budget. The GOP wants to take it away. We can’t let them do it.
The GOP in Wisconsin acts like it cares not at all about constituent pressure. But people power can win, even here. When Walker was governor and the GOP had a lock on the legislature, in 2015, they tried to kill IRIS, a vital long-term care program for people w disabilities. 1/
Disability rights advocates rose up. The Survival Coalition of Wisconsin Disability Organizations, Disability Rights Wisconsin, and others organized all over the state, flooded hearings, helped folks tell their stories. The GOP couldn’t take the heat. They folded two months in.
It’s easy to get cynical about the potential for people power to transform what’s politically possible in a state that’s as gerrymandered as Wisconsin. Yes, you don’t always win when you fight. But not fighting is not an option. We know what’s right. Let’s shift into high gear.
