Capitalism's most ardent base of supporters will always be those who have achieved upward mobility within its framework. But, because this group dwindles more and more as capitalism concentrates wealth, it naturally produces its opposition in the exploited.

As capitalism concentrates wealth, it must correspondingly create propaganda to convince the exploited that they deserve their exploitation. So long as they can keep the slaves complacent in their chains, the concentration can continue.

But concentration can only go on for so long before the exploited begin to resent their station. Upon this intersection, there are two outcomes:

1) The exploited recognize their common interest: socialism.
2) The exploited validate the hierarchy which oppresses them: fascism.

If the exploited choose fascism, they will be sorted into one group of subservient slaves and another group to be massacred, in measure to their loyalty to the oppressors. The utopia which was promised to them will never come. The cogs of their oppression now turn effortlessly.

If the exploited choose socialism, but they allow any hierarchical kernel of their oppressor's framework to remain, it will spread and consume their entire project. Hierarchy is a virus which destroys solidarity. No structure may withstand its corruption indefinitely.

We are upon the first juncture: our duty is to convince the masses to choose solidarity with their fellow oppressed and to crush fascist impulses. This will require extraordinary effort. The propaganda of self-blaming is strong in America. We must rekindle the spirit of rebellion

But to create unity among the oppressed is not enough. We must create the world we wish to see among the very groups which seek to create it. The oppressed may soon become the oppressors once the power is in their hands. One must only look to history to know this.
