Today, I will try my hand at live tweeting insights from "A #Home of One's Own", a two-day #researchworkshop on socially & economically #marginalised women's experiences of and negotiations with #genderinequalities in #informalurbanhousing in India.
This workshop has been organised by #JadavpurUniversity (School of Women's Studies), #RabindraBharathiUniversity (Centre for Women's Studies) and #Parichiti, a women's organisation. All three are research partners on a #GCRF project funded by @GoldsmithsUoL.
Since Oct 2018, I have collaborated with Dr. Henrike Donner, who is leading it, to develop #researchcollaborations with #educational and #development organisations in India to implement a pilot study on #genderurbanhousing. This workshop marks the end of the first phase.

New Regional Master Plan in the #BalearicIslands is willing to overturn #transportation planning from traffic to #mobility management.
"If you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic. If you plan for people and places, you get people and places". Fred Kent.
The last 16 years of planning and transportation management has been nearly useless to reduce private motorized vehicle trips mode share. It's time to change if we want to keep living on this precious islands.
Push and pull policies need to be implemented in the short term.

Yesterday evening a delightfully peaceful and well-mannered courier called and handed me this from @Citymapper πŸ’š
I'm excited because I love companies changing the commercial model of their sector. Interestingly I paid for this almost a month ago and the earliest I can use it is Monday, so clever @Citymapper have had my cash for a month and probably used it to pay for the PASS and delivery.
Here's what I've bought. I'm curious to see whether I get value for money from it because it's Β£3.90 more than a zone 1-2 Travelcard (@JuliaKingsford)

Thread:
Uber has announced an effort to deploy autonomous scooters and bicycles.

This is the worst new #mobility idea yet.

If I can't convince you that this is an insane waste of time by the end of this thread, I shouldn't have my job.

techcrunch.com/2019/01/20/ube…
I accept that it is technically possible to design, engineer, and manufacture autonomous scooters and bikes.

But it's a terrible idea for so many reasons I don't know where to begin.
I'm just going to start listing as many of the many reasons I can think of that this the worst idea ever.

As I do, keep in mind I'm not dismissing the technical possibility. I'm dismissing the idea that there is a business model at the end of this rainbow.

Subsidized transit card a great predictor of increased transit use. Use loss framing to get 11x more use, says @jessicaroberts : You're missing out if you don't take advantage of the money they're putting in your pocket. #transit
"Fresh Start Effect": We set an arbitrary day/time like New Year's Day to become a new person. Reaching out to someone who has just moved w/info to help them establish new transportation habits in this new setting is one effective technique.
