President @MBuhari today met with six groups of investors on the sidelines of the Annual Investment Meeting #AIM2019 in Dubai:

-LuLu Group
-Amea Power/Rotana Hotel chain
-Dubai Investments
-Abu Dhabi Fund for Development
-Nakheel Properties/Limitless Group.
-Skipperseil Group
At the Meetings were the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Executive Secretary of @nipcng; and Nigeria’s Ambassador to the UAE.

NIPC ES Yewande Sadiku says UAE is one of 20 countries identified by NIPC as being “important for strategic investment promotion for Nigeria.” #PMBinDubai

c1957/58, something happened in a village, Anohia, in Afikpo in what‘s today Ebonyi State. A large portion of the population converted to Islam. They were converted by a native, Okpani Egwani, who‘d traveled to Senegal, found Islam, & changed his name to Alhaji Ibrahim

There’s a fascinating paper on what happened, published by SIMON OTTENBERG of the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1971, and titled: “A Moslem Igbo Village.” I stumbled on it recently.

This is a thread about Bills sent to the President by NASS, for assent. Recall that just yesterday PMB declined assent to five Bills. With reasons, of course, per usual.

We have a problem, people, and I’ll explain why. Hopefully the 9th NASS (incoming) can help.
The reasons for the withholding of Presidential Assent tend to be similar. I’ll highlight the common ones:

One is that a good number of these bills tend to be rent-seeking in nature. They seek to carve out a special ‘Fund’ for the exclusive benefit of an Agency.
So, 1% here, 2% there, 0.5% there, too many Bills have clauses that are designed to corner some money. 1% of total tax paid on the Oxygen in the atmosphere, for an Oxgyen Development Fund that will be managed by the Nigerian Atmospheric Management Commission. You get the drift.
